Tattoo Aftercare

1. If you are using second skin, after 3-5 days, remove the bandage gently in the shower. Then wash with warm water and a mild soap. If you choose not to use a second skin, remove the wrap after 3 hours and wash with warm water and a mild soap. After washing, pat dry gently with a paper towel.

2. Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free lotion 3 times a day until the skin returns to its pre-tattoo condition. Be sure to use thin layers to avoid suffocating the tattoo. 

3. Stay out of sunlight/tanning beds and do not soak in tubs, saunas or Jacuzzis until the tattoo is completely healed (at least 2 weeks.)

4. Do not pick, scratch or rub your tattoo as it is healing. Disturbing the area may result in color loss or infection. If you notice extreme redness, green/yellow discharge that smells foul or a fever, please consult a physician. 

Second Skin Bandage is a type of wrap that is applied once a tattoo is complete. It is a layer of flexible adhesive plastic that covers a fresh tattoo like a second layer of skin. 

It is easy to apply and remove and protects your tattoo. The bandages are waterproof and can be worn in the shower. 

Once applied, the bandage will stay in place for 3 days for line work or 6 days for color pieces. During that time, your new tattoo will be protected from bacteria or contaminants. It will also be protected from rubbing against clothes or linens such as towels or bed sheets. 

In most cases, this type of bandages also offers faster healing. This is because it holds in the body’s natural healing processes and prevents the tattoo from drying out. 

With that being said, it is completely normal for ink & blood to pool under the bandage. This does not mean that your tattoo is ‘falling out’, it is simply residual or extra ink that the body is naturally pushing out in the form of plasma. 

Do not remove the bandage prematurely. If it starts to leak, please contact us and we will apply another piece of Second Skin.
