BUILT ON HISTORY
Before this property became Home Base Tattoo, it was Pollack’s Mink Farm; a place that would become part of Schuylkill County’s incredible boxing history.
Bernie Pollack wasn’t only a furrier. He was deeply involved in boxing, promoting and managing fighters and building an outdoor boxing ring on his Deer Lake mink farm where professional and amateur fighters could train away from the distractions of the city.
In the early 1970s, one of those fighters was Muhammad Ali.
Ali came to Pollack’s Mink Farm to train and found something special in the quiet Pennsylvania mountains. His time here helped introduce him to Deer Lake; an area he would come to love.
After weather repeatedly interrupted training at the farm’s outdoor ring, Ali decided he needed a permanent training facility. In 1972, he purchased nearby land and began building what would become the legendary Fighter’s Heaven.
More than fifty years later, pieces of Pollack’s Mink Farm can still be found throughout the wooded property surrounding Home Base Tattoo, including remnants of the original mink cages.
Today, this historic property has a new purpose.
Where fighters once came to perfect their craft, artists now come to perfect theirs.
